The Futures League was founded in 2011 and is a wood-bat, collegiate summer league featuring the top college baseball players in the country. The Westfield team will compete with other New England-based teams in Pittsfield, Worcester, Bristol, CT and Nashua, NH, among others.
Format. The Futures League is a wood-bat league. Its regular season schedule calls for 56 games per team (28 home and 28 away games). FCBL ballplayers are unpaid collegiate athletes who join the league to gain experience and exposure to Major League Baseball scouts. The FCBL mission is to prepare young men for the rigors of playing professional baseball. Evan J. Moorhouse comes to the Starfires with a long track record of success in Westfield baseball. He has been a member of Little League State Championships, a Western Mass High School Championship, and was the Babe Ruth McLenna Award winner for leadership and sportsmanship. The Futures program is open to soccer players from the age of U7 to U10. The aim of the program is to install a sense of enjoyment for playing soccer with a commitment to grassroots. EDP Futures comprises of small sided games working in teams of 4v4, 5v5 and 7v7.

The Starfires, playing out of Billy Bullens Field in Westfield, will open the season on Friday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m. against the Worcester Bravehearts. Evan J.
