The number of divorces granted increased by 2,428 (5.2%) in 2017 and the crude divorce rate increased from 1.9 divorces per 1,000 estimated resident population in 2016 to 2.0 divorces per 1,000 estimated resident population in 2017. The median age at divorce for both males and females was unchanged in 2017. The percentage of children living with one parent who live with just their father saw an increase from 12.5 percent in 2007 to 16.1 percent in 2017. Age-specific divorce rates For males, the highest divorce rate was for those in the 45-49 year age group, with 9.6 divorces per 1,000 population. For females, those aged 40-44 years had the highest divorce rate, with 9.4 divorces per 1,000 population. Divorce statistics in this publication are presented by the State or Territory where the court granting divorce was located, rather than the State or Territory of usual residence of the applicants.
